About us

A free scratchpad for Canadian money decisions.

netpad.ca is a free, independent digital scratchpad built to help everyday Canadians easily map out their personal taxes, real estate choices and investment goals — without a spreadsheet, a login or a sales pitch.

Most financial calculators online are written for an American audience. They compound mortgages monthly instead of semi-annually, ignore GDS and TDS lending ratios, and have no idea what a TFSA is or how land transfer tax works in British Columbia versus Ontario. We built The Canadian Netpad because the details matter, and because the details are what change the answer.

Every tool here runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored or sold. You choose your province once, and the whole pad — sales tax, income brackets, corporate rates, transfer taxes — recalculates against the rules that actually apply to you.

What we believe

  • Independent by design. We are not a bank, a brokerage or a lender. No tool here is steering you toward a product.
  • Free, always. The pad is supported by advertising, not by paywalls or lead generation.
  • Canadian first. Federal and provincial rules are the starting point, not an afterthought bolted onto an American formula.
  • Honest about estimates. These are planning numbers. They are accurate enough to make a decision with, and never a substitute for your accountant or mortgage broker.

How we keep rates current

Federal and provincial brackets, CPP and EI maximums, OAS payout rates and land transfer tax tiers are reviewed each tax year against published government sources. Where a figure is an approximation — such as average closing costs — we say so on the calculator itself.
